I work at a small hospice facility and we occasionally have family members or churches bring in meals for us. It is really a blessing to the families and the staff because we do not have any type of cafeteria on site. We have gone several weeks now without any “special” food.
And then I started my cleanse.
This week we’ve had hamburger steak and mashed potatoes with gravy, cake, cookies, sweet tea, baked spaghetti, buttered rolls, green beans, peas and watergate salad. I’m not going to lie and pretend that I didn’t eat any of it. I’m eating cleaner than usual but I did eat some of the watergate salad…and a cookie…and a small piece of cake.
Wow. Seeing it written down looks much worse than just saying it. Despite a few mess ups with my diet and my work schedule interfering with my workouts I have done pretty well with the cleanse. I’ve downed those fiber drinks, been drinking lots of water, and haven’t missed a scheduled pill yet. And I’m down a little over a pound in four days.
My goal is not only weight loss but just to get my mind back in the game and focused on eating clean. I have gained weight every Fall for the last three years. I am determined not to gain any weight this year. In fact, I’d love to do the opposite for once and actually lose some more instead!
I’m trying to get back to the basics of what worked when I first started losing weight in 2011. What worked then was eating clean, counting my calories, and group fitness classes (sometimes two a day, back to back). I kept myself motivated with rewards for pounds lost. Every time I lost five pounds I treated myself to something. I also kept myself motivated by running races. So if it worked before it should work again, right?
