Our Homeschool Curriculum 2014-2015

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!  Nope, not Christmas.  It’s Back to School for the students at Pines Academy!  This will be our sixth year homeschooling.  It certainly wasn’t something I ever thought we would be doing but we love it and I can’t imagine life any other way. I’ll admit to being way too slack last year for many reasons.

I feel like I’m in a better place mentally this year and I’m ready to get the girls back on track.  My oldest will be in the 8th grade.  She is going to be receiving high school credit for a few classes and it’s time to step up her game so she will be ready to start high school next year.  My middle daughter will be in the 3rd grade.  She tested above or at average level on her end of the year tests.  She needs a little work on her math but for the most part, she is right where she needs to be.  My baby will be starting Pre-K/Kindergarten.  She won’t be 5 until October but I feel like she is ready to tackle Kindergarten so we are going to give it a go.  If it gets to be too much for us, we’ll back off on it and start next year–the beauty of homeschooling!

I am excited that we decided to go back to some old favorites for our curriculum this year.  Looking through our old curriculum brought back some good memories of the things we studied.  We adore My Father’s World and will be using them again this year.  I’ll be posting more about it throughout our school year but it has hands down been our favorite curriculum of everything we have used.  It also saved us a good chunk of change because I only had to purchase the student sheets this time around! Here is our curriculum plan for this year including our extra curricular activities:

My philosophy is do as much together as possible.  Sometimes that is difficult since my girls’ ages are so far apart but we try to make it work when we are able.  The girls will all do Bible together.  Layla will listen in on the Geography and Science lessons and we will be reading Madalyn’s literature books aloud together.  We will all do the Christmas units together. It’s going to be a very busy year for us but we are ready to get back on a schedule and I’m excited about all the stuff the girls are going to learn this year!

  1. Which edition of Right Start math are you using with your kindergartener? Why did you choose that edition over the other? I plan to use Right Start next year with y 5 year old, but I am a little confused about the different versions. Thanks!

    1. They are in the process of updating the program which explains the two different versions. They told me that since we had not used RSM before we should go with the newer version (second edition). If you have questions you can e-mail them before you order. They are GREAT about responding to questions. I hope you love RSM as much as we do!
