Book Review: The Legend of St. Nicholas

Christmas came and went in a blur this year!  We had a wonderful holiday and I really enjoyed the whole season this year.  One of my favorite traditions is our Christmas book basket.  We are a book loving family and the girls look forward to the Christmas books coming out every year.

I was excited to add The Legend of St. Nicholas to our collection this year. It is a wonderful, beautifully illustrated hardcover book. The main character is a little boy named Nick. While shopping with his father, young Nick happens upon a store Santa who tells him a story about a little boy named Nicholas and how that little boy grew up to become the original St. Nicholas. Nick learns the true spirit and joy of Christmas is found in giving to others.

I love how the story of Jesus is woven into this book. St. Nicholas learns about Christ as a child and he begins giving to the poor as a celebration of Christ’s birth. This book is great for both families who celebrate the Santa Claus tradition and those who do not. It answers the question of who Santa is without giving away the secret to children who believe.
