Bulu Box, Muscle Memory and My FitBit

When I get busy, my poor blog suffers!  I apologize for not being around much lately.  I had several comments awaiting me (thanks, readers!) so thanks for not giving up on me when things are quiet.  In thanks for stopping by, I present to you this little gem of a video.  My hubby (who blogs at Plaid Dad Blog) and I review our second subscription box–a Bulu box.  It’s PG-13 and I may have peed in my pants a little bit from all the laughter.

April has been beyond busy.  I am a co-advisor for our homeschool co-op yearbook and we finally finished up the book and ordered it last weekend.  That was a huge sigh of relief and I’m so glad to have that off my plate.  Aaron and I had foster care class every Saturday (including three weeks when I had to work the Friday night before!) and we have one more this weekend to finish up.  The little girls had recital pictures.  We celebrated Easter.  We’ve had dentist and orthodontic appointments.  And then there were the two weeks that I picked up extra shifts and my two Mondays of grand jury duty.

Yes, it has been a crazy month for our family.  I am looking forward to May when things will slow down a little bit for us and we can breath.

When things get busy, I go into survival mode and for me that means ordering out/eating out.  A lot. We have been eating so much on the go lately and we haven’t been taking care or ourselves.  This week is a turning point for us.  I actually ran on the treadmill yesterday for the first time since December.  FOUR MONTHS.  It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be but I am a long way from running another half marathon!  I’m trying to be optimistic and believe all that “muscle memory” stuff I’ve heard about.  I hope my muscles have great long term memory.  It’s been a hot minute since I’ve ran more than 3 miles!

I have felt anything but “simply healthy” lately and I’m trying really hard to get myself back on track.  I bought a FitBit Zip this week on a whim and I can already see it being beneficial in helping me reach my goals.  It’s basically a glorified pedometer that you can synch with your SmartPhone.

I love checking my stats to see how many miles I’ve walked and how many calories it has estimated that I have burned.  It’s a great tool and a great motivator.

Here is a screenshot from yesterday:

I have synched this with My Fitness Pal so I put in my food there and it shows up in the FitBit app.  I wish it was all inclusive but it’s working for me so far.  I love being able to synch it any time and get an instant update on how close I am to my goals for the day.

So that’s life in the Simply Healthy Mama/Plaid Dad house.  Have you ever tried a subscription box service?  If so, did you like it?  I’m looking for a few more to review.  And how about you FitBit users!  Let’s get connected!  Send me a message or leave a comment!

  1. I’ve been dying to get a FitBit Flex but it’s just not in the squeaky-tight budget. I posted a want ad on the Raleigh Freecycle page and a lady in Cary is mailing me her unused one tomorrow! I can’t wait to get it and have proof of the work I’m doing, other than sore muscles. The Lord is providing our needs and some of our wants. 🙂

    1. That is awesome! Let me know when you get it and we can try to connect. I have no idea how to do that yet but maybe we can figure it out! 🙂 Love when God provides our “wants”–I know that seeing us smile makes HIM smile! 🙂
